About
For my capstone game design studies, I want to delve deeper into issues of game design, game-level narrative, and global warming, specifically its impact on Arctic habitats. For my capstone design project, I wanted to demonstrate the fusion of level design and storytelling in video games, and I wanted to focus on creating some emotional resonance between the player and the iconic arctic animal represented by my game's virtual protagonist, the polar bear. The background story will be based on global warming. Still, of course, my game design should face many challenges, such as how to make players aware of the urgency of environmental issues while still retaining the game experience based on game levels and how to use game engines to implement the environments and interactive elements I envisioned, I needed to learn the relevant techniques to ensure the game was technically meet the standards I imagined.
In conclusion, first of all, my game has a certain degree of success in the direction I expected. By employing methods such as action research and iterative design, I could more efficiently gradually refine my game prototype and rely on feedback and repeated testing to make adjustments. Similar dialogue systems, mission systems and other game mechanisms are introduced midway, which can further increase players' sense of participation in the game. However, there were also many difficulties I encountered in making the game and areas that did not meet my expectations. For example, when I tried to use the chaos destruction mechanism, I could not achieve the effect I wanted. This required me to be more technical about the game engine. In-depth research and discussion. In addition, it is about the balance between authenticity and gameplay, especially the ice riding mechanism with different terrain heights, which gives players a sense of immersion in the gaming experience.
In general, I have used level design, narrative design and global warming issues to add to the game. Not only does the game have a certain degree of playability, but it also has a particular educational value so that players can initiate actions through the polar bear encounter. A specific emotional resonance. During the entire research process, the biggest failure was that I did not actively obtain feedback from others, and the time it took to conceive the theme and make the game was shorter than ordinary people, so this led to the possibility that I had overlooked some aspects in the game design. Lots of great opinions and perspectives. I hope to participate more actively in discussions and further improve the game to achieve better research results.
